Selecting Stone

Natural Lite Thin Veneer vs. Full Stone

Glacier Stone Supply Natural Lite Thin Veneer can be installed in as little as half the time as full stone, saving labor costs. Because of its thinner profile, our Thin Veneer can be used in applications where it would be impossible to use full stone. As an example, it can be used on an upstairs zero clearance fireplace without having to put a block footing to the foundation. At an average of 12 lbs per square foot, it is self supporting and does not require ledge for support, making it perfect for remodeling projects and zero clearance fireplaces. In addition, due to it’s thinner profile roughly three times as much can be shipped per truck.

Additional applications:

Veneer backsplashes, stone baseboards, kitchens, showers, interior and exterior water features and even furniture insets.

Natural Lite Thin Veneer vs. Manufactured Stone

Natural Lite Thin Veneer is a real stone product vs. a cement based product with added pigmentation. Natural Lite Thin Veneer will never fade and is much less absorbent than manufactured stone. This prevents moisture from getting in behind the stone and “popping” the stone off during freeze-thaw cycles that are common in mountain and northern climates, which is a common problem with manufactured stone. Natural Lite Thin Veneer will hold up in the most extreme climates. With its natural color, real lichen and moss, Natural Lite Thin Veneer has a superior look compared to manufactured stone. With natural stone, each stone is unique. Whereas manufactured stone is made to look real, Natural Lite Thin Veneer is real.

Natural stone can be acid-washed, so that a veneer project can be cleaned with acid-wash, just like a full stone project. Manufactured stone cannot be acid-washed.Real stone has 1000 of years of history in building materials and is a time tested product. Manufactured is a young product and not yet tested over even decades.
